Essential Job Duties:
The Bruno-Barcena Lab is seeking a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to develop purification methods for prebiotic fibers generated from enzymatic reactions. Our laboratory aims to transform lactose into prebiotic dietary fibers, including GOS and other bifidogenic factors in fermented dairy products, non-fermented dairy products, and non-dairy products.
The successful candidate needs to demonstrate strong expertise and skills using chromatography for purification of prebiotic fibers and affinity chromatography (e.g., His, FLAG, or streptavidin) on proteins. Major responsibilities include: (1) designing robust lab-scale experiments to asses purity of byproducts; (2) using various tools (e.g., chromatography, HPLC) to develop fundamental purification methods based on biochemical and biophysical properties; and (3) concentrate protein for use in experiments.
The Postdoc will meet frequently with Dr. Bruno-Barcena and Dr. Dagher to discuss progress, best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.
The position will initially be for nine (9) months and may be extended contingent on funding and regular progress evaluation.
