The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance. The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/ psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/ emotional state of NC State students. Our services are primarily short term in nature and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. Members of the counseling center commit to:
Essential Job Duties:
The Clinical Counselor Associate position is designed to prepare individuals for a staff position in a University Counseling Center, with particular emphasis on future Psychologists, Counselors or Social Workers wishing to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Fellowship is designed to enable clinicians with 0-5 years of experience to gain additional experience and clinical hours to fulfill requirements for licensure in the State of North Carolina. The Fellowship provides a series of training (risk assessment, leadership and professional identity development) germane to this provisional licensure stage of development. Clinical Supervision will be provided.
After 12 months in the program, the position is eligible for rehire, with a developmentally
appropriate increase in responsibilities (e.g, serving as primary leader of a group, increasing the
number of crisis/on-call shifts etc.). Clinical Counseling Associates in this position
are responsible for assisting in all areas of Counseling Center functioning including:

Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduation from accredited Master’s Program in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work and completion of an Internship or Field Placement at a University Counseling Center or equivalent clinical experience. Also, demonstrated progress in application for licensure within applicant’s discipline.
