Position Overview
We are seeking a Technical Support Engineer for Suspension related components and systems to join our team at Navistar. In this role, you’ll provide technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. The expertise consists of cab suspension, front suspension, rear suspension, and lift axle systems. Main components within those systems consists of air springs, leaf springs, shocks, height control valves and elastomers.
Responsibilities
Creates, reviews, and updates standard processes
Partners with Product Validation to determine appropriate test activities and acceptance criteria to validate vehicle Suspension systems and components
Reviews designs for completeness and accuracy
Mentors engineers on the technical challenges of designing Suspension systems and components
Solve technical challenges
Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
Work directly with Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Purchasing, and other Product Development Engineering groups
Support Manufacturing and plant goals of safety, quality, and cost
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
Additional Requirements
Desired Skills
Deep technical knowledge of Suspension systems and system design
Deep knowledge of engineering quality disciplines such as APQP, DFMEA, etc.
Can create mathematical models to create Suspension design concepts and diagnosis performance issues
Can create engineering specifications and validation procedures from voice of customer (can apply QFD principles)
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing technical problems and solutions to executive level leadership in a clear and concise manner
Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
Ability to assemble detailed project plans with aggressive but achievable milestones
Efficiently address the needs of multiple projects on a day-to-day basis
High sense of urgency
Related skills:
Experience with ground vehicle features/systems
Experience with manufacturing processes
Ability to plan, estimate, execute within budget/schedule
Ability to interface with customers/suppliers/coworkers to get results.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
Hands on experience with fabrication and/or vehicle work is a plus
