The Sharon Walker School of Education at Morningside University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in
Educational Research to provide instruction and support for graduate students enrolled in initial licensure and advanced practice graduate
programs.
The Sharon Walker School of Education focuses exclusively on preparing future educators and providing advanced study for
current educators, serving approximately 1,500 students each year across undergraduate, adult, and graduate programs both on campus and
online. The School offers traditional initial licensure programs for undergraduate students in elementary and secondary education, as well
as 100% online graduate programs, featuring 12 MAT programs, 3 initial licensure graduate degree programs, and 13 graduate advanced practice
endorsements. In addition, Morningside University is one of two institutions in the state of Iowa approved to offer initial licensure
through the Iowa Teacher Intern program for secondary education and the only approved Teacher Intern program for special education in the
state. Enrollments are thriving in these accelerated adult and alternative route programs. All graduate students in initial licensure and
advanced practice MAT degree programs conduct action research. The MAT research core is designed to scaffold research design and evaluation
skills leading to a capstone experience at the conclusion of the MAT degree program.
This is a 12-month, full time, tenure track
position with a remote option and an annual teaching load of 24 credits assigned across the fall, spring, and/or summer terms as
appropriate. The anticipated start date is August 12, 2024.
Responsibilities:
● Teach graduate courses
(online) in the MAT research core to initial licensure and advanced practice graduate students.
● Participate in service to the unit
and university and engage in professional development.
● Embrace action research paradigms as a meaningful form of professional
development for educators.
● Mentor and nurture adult learners to success with educational action research.
● Provide content
oversight for the core coursework of the MAT degree programs and participate in the continuous improvement and development of
coursework.
● Mentor part time faculty teaching in the research core.
● Demonstrate a commitment to implementing high quality
instruction in an online environment.
● Teaching assignments may include courses such as, educational research theory, readings,
designing action research, evaluating action research, education research capstone.
Qualifications:
● An
earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction, education, or closely related field, and experience teaching in K-12.
● Outstanding
educational and instructional technology skills, experience using learning management systems, electronic portfolio systems, and remote
learning platforms.
● Expertise in research design and data analysis, as well as experience with/openness to quantitative,
qualitative, and mixed methods.
● Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to creating inclusive learning environments and curricula
for a diverse student body, including awareness of current practices that support underrepresented populations.
● Additional
licensure/endorsements in literacy, ESL, special education, or educational administration, preferred.
● Prior experience in online
teaching, adult education, and/or graduate programs, preferred.
● Prior teaching experience in higher education teacher preparation
programs, preferred.
