Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of English & World Languages in the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences welcomes applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning August 2023. Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly or creative work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. The Department seeks a colleague with expertise in Spanish language and literature with the ability to teach in both Spanish and English languages. Faculty will have the opportunity to teach courses in Spanish language and Spanish, Spanish-American and/or other Latino/ a literatures. Faculty will also support Spanish program development, collaborate with and advise our Spanish Club, and assist with advising Spanish majors and minors.
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Millersville University Promotion Statement.

Job Description
EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly work and department and university service. Teaching responsibilities will include elementary and intermediate Spanish language courses and Spanish, Spanish-American and/or other Latino/a literatures. Actual course assignment will depend upon departmental need and may include day, evening, and/or online delivery courses. Classes should be conducted through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face, web-enhanced, or web-based classroom delivery. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as developing and updating curriculum, assessing learning outcomes for courses and programs, and participating in department, college and university meetings and workshops. The faculty member will have opportunities to mentor undergraduate students in scholarly research and to pursue a research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed scholarly output appropriate for the discipline. Faculty will advise and mentor students in other high-impact practices, as appropriate.

Provide service on an ongoing basis by contributing professionally to department and university governance, the professional community and/or the community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity. Candidates must be willing to participate in undergraduate- and graduate-level curricular activities including assisting in activities associated with maintaining program approval at the state and national levels.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of English & World Languages at Millersville University houses degree-granting programs in English, English Education and Language and Culture Studies. We also offer a Master of Arts and Master of Education in English. We enroll over 200 students in our undergraduate programs and 40 students in our graduate programs. We have 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty representing a wide range of research interests and specializations.
