Position Summary
The Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health at Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine invites applicants with progressive research experience to supervise an NIMH-funded study to evaluate approaches to ending pregnancy-related and associated morbidity and mortality (PRAMM) disparities. This study has been funded under Dr. Jennifer Johnson, C.S. Mott Endowed Professor of Public Health, Professor of OBGYN, Psychiatry, and Behavioral Medicine. This study will develop and evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a scale-up implementation approach for scaling equity-focused outpatient and community care safety bundles county-wide in 12 Michigan counties with a population of nearly 6 million people.
This study is associated with the Maternal Health Multilevel Interventions For Racial Equity (MIRACLE) Center. The work will reduce disparities by implementing and testing interventions to reduce maternal illness and death through three projects – each with novel designs covering the pregnancy through postpartum periods.
The ideal candidate will operate as the study lead by managing the daily operations and activities to support data collection, intervention, and work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), project staff, and key collaborators to meet study objectives. S/he will supervise the study research assistants which will include quality checks and oversite of data collection and analysis. This individual will also oversee the dissemination, collection and review of annual provider surveys. S/he will coordinate the study’s regulatory requirements, supervise the issuing, mailing, and tracking of subject payments and clinical and clerical quality checks on study data. Day-to-day oversight of this implementation trial will take 100% of the individuals time over the course of the study. Having someone highly organized is vital given the mass data collection piece of the study.
Description of Job Duties
50% Supervising the study research assistants, maintain project compliance with IRB, liaise with research informatics for the creation and maintenance of study data collection forms
20% Provide clinical and clerical quality checks on the study data
20% Supervise the issuing, mailing, and tracking of subject payments
10% Oversee the annual provider surveys
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master’s in the specific field of research employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports , supervision, software, data interpretation and handling in area related to research being performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in psychology, public health, social work, or related field
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of a master’s degree in psychology, public health, social work, or a related field; 3-5 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research project oversight, research methodologies, writing, reports, data collection procedures and interpretation, participant tracking, IRB and safety procedures; experience in work processing and spreadsheet software; experience with supervising diverse staff including staff development and motivation; combination of education and/or experience.
Proficiency with data and participant tracking software and strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word software; ability to troubleshoot and analyze problems and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Experience using REDCap. Previous supervisory experience in a research setting preferred. Living in or near the Flint, MI area is preferred.
