Position Summary
The STEMM-Up program helps people with disabilities from underrepresented/marginalized communities find and advance in STEMM (science, technology engineering, mathematics and medicine) careers through training, coaching, job shadowing, and internships.
The Information Technologist is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining database systems. This includes working with the STEMM-Up team and affiliated organizations to understand their needs, designing and developing database structures, building database content, writing and testing SQL queries, and optimizing database performance. The Database Specialist also works to ensure the security and integrity of the database systems.
This is an off-dated position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
• Design, develop, build, and implement database systems to meet the needs of the STEMM project.
• Test the applications
• Write and test SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data.
• Optimize database performance to improve speed and efficiency.
• Ensure the security and integrity of database systems.
• Develops and implements systems software, production systems, and related operations and project policies, procedures, standards, and practices.
• Independently designs, modifies, and implements databases and database support software.
• Monitors database applications for optimal performance.
• Monitors the physical size of databases and estimates size needs.
• Migrates database applications and changes from testing to production.
• Provides independent specialized customer support STEMM employees and the organization
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
3+ years of experience in database administration or development.
Strong knowledge of SQL and database design principles.
Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Experience with database security and disaster recovery.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in the nonprofit sector.
Experience with specific database platforms like Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server. Experience with cloud-based database technologies like Amazon RDS or Azure SQL Database.
Experience with database administration tools like SQL Server Management Studio or MySQL Workbench.
Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence tools.
