Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost and Dean of International Studies and Programs, identify best practices and provide strategic leadership, planning and operational management to the University and its constituents on matters of global health, safety and security. In collaboration with key stakeholders around the University, develop, manage, and champion a comprehensive travel preparedness and response strategy to promote and protect the well-being of Michigan State University (MSU) students, scholars, faculty, staff, and others traveling abroad and domestically under University sponsorship, and the University’s global teaching, outreach and research efforts. Identify, evaluate, mitigate and monitor global risks for MSU. Implement a range of projects to advance this strategy, including those described below.

Condition of Employment:
This position is the primary on-call incident leader for global emergencies and must be available to share 24/7/365 emergency coverage (by cell phone) with other qualified personnel. Occasional domestic and international travel for conferences and training, site assessment, and/or emergency response may be required. Travel may be required on short notice to manage an emergency. Environmental conditions can be stressful especially in the event of an international emergency.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one to two years of post baccalaureate degree work in a field related to international studies, international programs, legal issues in higher education; or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in a higher education environment involving international programs; extensive knowledge of world geography and cultures, and experience living, studying or working abroad for at least six months; extensive knowledge of safety and security issues as they relate to international programs. May require domestic and international travel expected.

Previous position in higher education with relevant and progressively responsible experience in global risk management and analysis; experience coordinating across administrative units and working with faculty or senior staff. Working proficiency in a foreign language. Graduate degree in international education or business, law, communications, risk-analysis or related field of study. Proficiency with computer software, data management, and social media.
