General Summary/Overview

Under the collaborative direction of the Sr Director of Medical Group Services and the Billing Team Lead, the A/R Follow Up Specialist will be responsible for investigation and remediation of outstanding insurance claims. Providing prompt and courteous follow up on each claim from the assigned carriers you will ensure MHSI receives the proper adjudication and payment for all services rendered.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow up monthly on all outstanding services in assigned work queue.
• Ensures accounts touched are reviewed for accuracy and compliance in accordance with MHSI and insurance carrier policies as well as state and federal regulations.
• Answer phone calls and assist patients with billing concerns.
• Remediate claims/encounter issues which include but are not limited to

-Refiling Claims with corrections to ensure proper processing by assigned
payers.
-Voiding and/or reentering corrected claims
-Applying appropriate adjustment codes in accordance with MHSI
policy/procedure
-Investigating, validating, and submitting refund request with proper
documentation in accordance with MHSI policy/procedure
-Updating and correcting demographic information to ensure proper
processing

• Maintains standards per payer for percentage accounts >90 days.
• Participates in educational activities and attends monthly department staff meetings.
• Maintains confidentiality adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications

3 years of experience in a physician billing office is required. Experienced and proficient preforming insurance A/R follow up work along with comprehensive understanding of ICD-10, HCPCS/CPT coding, 3rd insurance reimbursement policies and compliant billing practices. Surgical, Neurology and Neurosurgery experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities Required:

Must have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to examine patient accounts for accuracy and completeness. Ability to communicate and work effectively with patients, physicians, co-workers and insurance carriers. Must be able to use a computer, phone, calculator, fax machine and other office tools efficiently to meet performance goals. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel: and the ability to learn new programs and systems. Dependable in both production and attendance
