Job Summary:International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs) are undergraduate or graduate students who assist ISSS with welcoming new international students to Miami University.Essential Duties:Complete all training and respond promptly to emails regarding your schedule and work responsibilities;
Serve as a resource in answering questions about Miami University, the Oxford community, and life in the U.S.;
Connect new international students with university resources and introduce them to university policies;
Facilitate small group discussions about cultural adjustment;
Plan and facilitate orientation activities (cultural and/or recreational);
Assist with airport pick-up transportation and helping students move into the residence halls with their luggage;
Assist with document check, TB tests, and orientation sessionsMinimum Qualifications:
Enrolled full-time at Miami University as an undergraduate student
Completed at least one semester at Miami University at the time of application
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the time of application
Preferably, have no other obligations during your employment as an iPOL. Tentative dates August 14-25, 2024.
Effective cross-cultural communication skills and cross-cultural sensitivity in working with students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to direct students to appropriate campus units or resources, and answer questions
Punctual, reliable, flexible and enthusiastic
Ability to proactively solve problems and take initiative to assist ISSS staff to improve the quality of orientation
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Excellent leadership, communication, and listening skills
Ability to plan and lead recreational activities
