Family Science & Social Work: Director of Social Work Field Education to provide leadership and oversight of all efforts related to field placements for the BSW and MSW programs.
The Department of Family Science and Social Work promotes a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected relationships between theory, research, and practice (e.g., prevention, intervention) by incorporating knowledge, values, and skills from the fields of social work, human development, and family science. Our programs prepare students to ethically respond to the complex needs of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities from a global, social justice orientation. The Department houses the following programs: Masters of Social Work, Bachelors of Social Work, Child Life Specialist undergraduate and graduate certificates, and minors in Family Relationships and Child and Youth Development. The Director of Social Work Field Education will:
• Upon completion of thorough assessment and a guided matching process, assign field placements for BSW and MSW students;
• Serve as the instructor of record for designated or appropriate BSW and MSW field education courses;
• Recruit, vet, train, and mentor faculty who are teaching field seminars and conducting required site visits;
• Maintain field manuals, forms, and agency affiliation agreements;
• Ensure field education is in compliance with CSWE standards and requirements (e.g., collecting assessment data and materials for reaffirmation);
• Maintain and update field database and learning management systems (LMS)
• Ensure students, faculty, and field supervisors have access to needed forms, assignments, and policies;
• Conduct annual orientations/ training of agency field supervisors;
• Conduct regular orientations for students entering field education;
• Develop new placements for both social work and family science students;
• Recruit and vet appropriate field supervisors who are on-site supervising students completing field education;
• Mediate placement conflicts, conduct plan of action meetings for students of concern, and reassign students at field sites as needed;
• Teach up to two field seminars (1-2 credit hours each) as needed and conduct site visits for students enrolled in these seminars;
• Cultivate and maintain collaborations with designated partner agencies;
• Collaborate with appropriate Miami/EHS faculty and staff to create opportunities for continuing education unit (CEU) training for students and community members and maintain appropriate paperwork to ensure compliance with the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board;
• Serve on the FSW Executive Committee and other departmental, college, and university committees as necessary;
• Participate in the College’s partnerships team, working collaboratively to build relationships with community partners to benefit the entire college
• Contribute to curriculum development, departmental administration, and governance
Required: Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program; five years of full-time, post-MSW practice experience.
Consideration may be given to candidates with demonstrated college-level teaching experience and proficiency; at least one year of experience in supervising social work students who are completing field education.
