Job Summary:
The Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion is searching for an Associate Director for LGBTQ+ Initiatives will oversee the daily operations of supporting students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer in addition to other identities within the community (LGBTQ+); to provide education and consultation to the Miami community concerning the LGBTQ+ population; to advocate for inclusion and equity around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. In addition, the Associate Director will work with the staff of the Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion to create and assess intersectional programs and services that serve marginalized and historically underrepresented populations at Miami. This position is additionally charged with fostering collaborations with various departments within Student Life, as well as other university divisions such as Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Success.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Provide programming for the LGBTQ+ population, including Rainbow Reception, speaker series, LGBTQ+ History month awareness, National Coming Out Day, and Lavender Graduation. In addition, provide campus-wide education opportunities regarding the LGBTQ+ population including Safe Zone Training, and classroom lectures.
Serve as advisor and collaborate on programming with Spectrum (undergraduate LGBTQIA+ student group) in addition to serving as a resource to other LGBTQ+ groups (Out in STEM (OSTEM), Graduate Student Pride Association).
Serve as a campus resource for issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, including coming out, health concerns, navigating resources, and identity development.
Provide interpersonal support for crisis intervention, information, and referral as necessary.
Collaborate with and participate in various committees with offices in the Division of Student Life, as well as with university divisions across campus.
Collaborate with campus partners to establish various university policies and guidelines geared to enhance the experience of LGBTQ+ students, staff and faculty.
Support the 1809 LGBTQ+ Alumni board by joining monthly conference calls, attending networking events, and participating during Alumni Weekend.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, College Personnel, Counseling, or related field.
Desired Qualifications:
3-5 years of professional work experience in Multicultural/Diversity Affairs, Leadership/Student Development, Student Activities or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Previous experience in working with issues of diversity, inclusion and LGBTQ+ identities.
Ability to design programs that serve marginalized and historically underrepresented populations including outreach to International Students.
Proven effectiveness in human relations including the ability to relate well with all segments of campus.
Act as student advocate.
Group facilitation skills required.
Ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.
