The Assistant Director of the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship for the Corporate Innovation Track will have a range of responsibilities related to advancing the co-curricular, teaching, and service activities in the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship for social entrepreneurship.
The Assistant Director will have the following duties and responsibilities in this capacity:
Developing and/or supporting the development of new co-curricular programs in social entrepreneurship and impact investing and other areas as assigned. Cultivating and/or supporting the cultivation host company organizations for class projects. Cultivating and/or supporting the cultivation of guest speakers, judges, and mentors to support curricular and co-curricular activities. Developing and/or supporting the development of entrepreneurship seminars and/or classroom projects. Overseeing and/or supporting the planning, organization, and execution of the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship’s co-curricular entrepreneurship programs, including Startup Weekend, Social Innovation Weekend, World Creativity & Innovation Week/Day, the RedHawk Venture Pitch Competition, and the Business Model Road Test Competition, among others. Assisting with engagement activities and events for Miami University alumni-founders, alumni-funders, and other professionals from the business and startup ecosystem, among others. Assisting with communications to external stakeholders, including Miami alumni, startup and business professionals from the broader ecosystem, and faculty and administrators from other colleges and universities, among others. Assisting with student recruiting/retention; assisting with completion of rankings surveys and collection of success measurements. Other duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s degree; understanding of entrepreneurship (as demonstrated by coursework or professional experience).
Consideration may be given to candidates with a M.B.A. or advanced degree in related field; at least 3 years of experience in business or related field; experience as the founder of a startup or social enterprise, as an angel or institutional investor, or as a director or member of an accelerator for startups or social enterprises; experience with external corporate relations and/or executive level outreach and cultivation activities; experience with fundraising for universities and/or collegiate centers or institutes, non-profits and/or social enterprises; experience with startups, venture capital, social entrepreneurship, impact investing, corporate innovation, or creativity in entrepreneurial ecosystems; and experience developing and promoting new programs or events; understanding of executive level outreach and cultivation activities; excellent written and oral presentation skills; willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends; ability to adapt within an entrepreneurial start-up environment; and willingness to travel.
