Merck & Co Hiring for Senior Scientist, Preclinical Development job in South San Francisco Full Time

• Provide support in the early development of our Company’s biologics pipeline by evaluating critical quality attributes, selecting manufacturable drug candidates, and ensuring efficient transition of candidate molecules to the company’s early-stage process development team.
• Serve as a CMC subject matter expert in Discovery program core teams.
• Interface with Discovery, Analytics, and Pharmaceutical Science teams in the planning, execution, and interpretation of manufacturability assessment strategies.
• Generate stable cell lines using high-throughput screening.
• Execute bioreactor production, and FPLC purification of candidate molecules to support manufacturability assessment and process development.
• Optimize production and purification processes.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Responsible for memos, technical reports, and relevant sessions of IND filing.

Requirements:

• Must have a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering or related field plus 4 years relevant experience in biopharmaceutical industry or a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering or related field plus 7 years relevant experience in biopharmaceutical industry.
• Must possess experience with high throughput bioreactor system (e.g. Ambr15); hands-on experience with bioreactor production and protein purification using FPLC; and experience in using various data science tools (Spotfire, SIMCA) for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong understanding with production cell line generation using CHO system and microbial systems (e.g. Pichai pastoris); and good understanding of analytical methods for assessing critical quality attributes of biologics also required.
• Must possess knowledge in culture media development and process optimization; and familiarity with various molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, primer design, copy number estimation using ddPCR, Gibson cloning and Southern blot.
• Applicant must be creative; possess critical thinking, strong troubleshooting skills; and strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously is required.
• Telecommuting permitted.
• 40 hours per week; M-F – 9am-5pm.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. -This Hybrid work model does not apply to, and daily in-person attendance is required for, field-based positions; facility-based, manufacturing-based, or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. Expected salary range:
$125,000.00 – $196,800.00
