Merced College is a midsized community college located in California’s Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the College serves more than 16,000 students annually with room to expand on its 267-acre main Merced campus and 120 acre Los Banos campus site. The City of Merced, incorporated in 1889, offers historical sites, affordable housing, access to the Bay Area and Sacramento, and it is the Gateway to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra mountains as well as home to the University of California Merced campus. The College is seeking a full-time Counselor to support this mission, commencing with the Fall 2023 semester. The Counselor will be part of a team of professionals who develop and implement comprehensive support services designed to improve student success.

General Description:
This is a full-time, tenure track, and general fund assignment in the General Counseling Department at Merced College under the direction of the Dean of Student Services. The incumbent will be responsible for the provision of counseling and support services to students enrolled in Merced Community College District, and in maintaining legal compliance with all district policies, as well as all State and Federal mandates. The counselor will also serve as the coordinator for the college’s probation/retention program. The standard counseling load may include evening hours.

Interview Information:
Those applicants deemed highly qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee, which includes a teaching demonstration on a selected topic. Interviews may be held onsite or via Zoom. Applicants are required to ensure access to the necessary technology to participate in a Zoom interview and will be responsible for any incurred travel expenses, if necessary.
