Macalester College Looking for Assistant Dean of Students Full Time

The Office of Student Affairs at Macalester College seeks to hire an Assistant Dean of Students. The Assistant Dean of Students provides
leadership in the Division of Student Affairs, specifically in the areas of student case management, off-campus student conduct, student
crisis intake, and on-call response. Offers direct support to students in accessing resources and navigating challenges they encounter
during their Macalester experiences. Supervises the Assistant Director of Student Support and the Director of Disability Services. Leads
cross-campus Case Management meetings by facilitating discussions regarding case updates, assisting in assessing risk level, updating
Maxient to reflect status and interventions, and being one of the main points of contact for interventions. Coordinates and manages ongoing
support, evaluation, and coaching for students of concern by collaborating with colleagues across the campus, including Student Affairs,
Academic Programs, Multicultural Life, Financial Aid, and other administrative units. Coordinates with off-campus, community support
providers for updates about student welfare, including but not limited to hospitals and outpatient programs. Maintains FERPA-protected
records within the electronic record-keeping database under the CARE team. Serves as a member of the On-Call Team and as a Title IX Deputy.
Leads Student Affairs-facilitated awards processes and programs and participates in general Student Affairs functions and on-campus
representation. Ensures work is informed by lenses of anti-racism, universal design, and equity. Applies a trauma-informed approach to
advising and support. Remains up-to-date on best practices and relevant training to inform student-centered work, intercultural
competencies, and student learning and development.

Responsibilities

• Supports immediate
  and ongoing student needs by conducting intake meetings, evaluating needs, and coordinating with campus and community partners to ensure
  appropriate resources are referred and campus interventions are implemented. Builds and maintains supportive relationships with students of
  concern by proactively engaging via check-ins, mentoring, and advising. Evaluates need for continued active support for students of
  concern.
• Co-leads the Case Management team, including facilitation of meetings, assignment of tasks and follow up, and appropriate
  onboarding and ongoing training/professional development of team members. Ensures that timely documentation occurs regarding case management
  interventions and student case updates. Co-manages Maxient and documents Maxient processes with the Executive Director of Residential Life.
  Supports Associate Dean in strategic planning around student support and resources for case management. Serves as a member of the On-Call
  Team.
• Supervises the Assistant Director of Student Support and the Director of Disability Services. Works with the Office of
  Student Affairs team to ensure continuity of student support and intervention. Communicates necessary information in a timely way with the
  Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Students.
• Leads off-campus student conduct process, including maintaining process and
  protocol reflective of current best practices, ensuring appropriate onboarding and training of conduct officers/adjudicators, moving
  students through the conduct/appeals process, and collaborating with the Executive Director of Residential Life to maintain parity and
  coordination with the on-campus student conduct process.
• Leads Student Affairs-facilitated awards processes and programs and
  participates in general Student Affairs functions and on-campus representation.
• Maintains relationships and communication with
  College and community-based partners who offer meaningful resources for students in need of support. This includes Residential Life,
  Athletics, Health & Wellness Center, Disability Services, Academic Programs, Public Safety, Title IX and Antidiscrimination Coordinator,
  Multicultural Life, Spiritual Life, local hospitals, treatment facilities, outpatient programs, etc.
• Serves as Title IX
  Deputy.
• Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage,
  identity, status or orientation.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience in Student Affairs, Social
  Work, Student Conduct, or Counseling
• Understanding of student developmental and learning processes, trauma-informed interactions
  and support, mental health first-aid, behavioral and threat assessment.
• Ability to create assessment tools and analyze data.
• Develop project goals and/or learning outcomes. Meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, communicate with appropriate staff. Evaluate
  outcomes.
• Ability to learn various data management systems and presentation software.
• Can organize and complete
  administrative tasks effectively. Uses appropriate professional written correspondence in communication.
• Computer, phone, copy
  machine, basic assistive technology (e.g smart pens, Kurzweil) and other accommodation related equipment.
• Assess level of student
  crisis and distressed behavior.
• Master’s Degree required.
• Demonstrates the commitment to equity, inclusion, and
  diversity. Actively engages in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion to increase individual capacity to support
  institutional changes that create and sustain a more welcoming and inclusive environment across the Macalester Community. Familiarity with
  residential collegiate living and learning programs, residential curricula.

Compensation & Benefits:
The
total compensation for this position includes an annual salary which will commensurate with experience and Macalester’s Benefits.
