The Packaging PD team is a diverse group of people responsible for the design and execution of structural packaging for all Apple products – from shippers to finished goods boxes. Our packaging delivers an outstanding customer experience, while protecting products throughout the shipping environment, and advancing Apple’s sustainability goals. We collaborate with a wide range of teams including Industrial Design, Marketing, Environmental, Operations and many others during the design process. We are seeking someone who approaches problem solving with passion, creativity, and curiosity. Apple’s approach to packaging is unique, so we value people who are eager to learn new skills and further improve their knowledge of packaging design, manufacturing processes, and sustainable materials. Key Qualifications
2+ years of technical work in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, Product Testing or similar
Innovative problem solving, ability to balance creativity with engineering rigor
Good mechanical engineering analysis skills
Strong attention to detail and curiosity of how technologies work
Ability to present technical information in a thorough and confident manner to management and executive teams
Knowledge of material and structural characterization tests
Experience with FEA analysis and structure optimization
Experience in design/execution of experiments and analysis of data into actionable results
Experience with mechanical and environmental reliability testing preferred but not required
Able to travel internationally (20%+)
Description
This role will develop new packaging designs, technologies, and evaluation tools. You will work with the Product Design team and other stakeholders to develop concepts, engineer solutions and define performance measures. Through engineering analysis, you will quantify performance vs. risk and advise the leadership team on the best path forward. You will demonstrate creativity in problem solving, the ability to think dynamically and outside of standard convention, and adapt quickly to new technical areas. – Conceiving, engineering and implementing innovative packaging technologies concepts in all phases of the development cycle. – Performing design validation and characterization from prototype through production testing, including developing and refining predictive reliability test procedures and performance specifications – Driving failure analysis and developing corrective actions/design solutions. – Leading multiple projects concurrently, including remote oversight of activities at vendors/third party labs
