Who you’ll work with
Cisco’s Internet of Things Business Unit transforms critical industries and improves lives by bringing IT to the physical world to increase business resiliency and employee safety. The technical marketing team consists of highly motivated and hardworking engineers with a gift for explaining Cisco’s IoT technologies, increasing customer adoption, and driving product development. We get to see the entire product and solution lifecycle from inception through development and on to customer deployment. We have close contact with customers, partners, sales, marketing, product management and engineering so we often see more of the puzzle than other roles.
Technical Marketing Engineers get to do something different every day so there’s never a dull moment. We’re involved with product design from the very early stages working with engineering to balance the customer needs with what’s technically possible. We also work with Product Managers to plan out the portfolio making sure that we’re building things people want to buy. TMEs build and deliver technical presentations and product demos at a variety of internal, external and industry events so you’re often the front person bragging about the exciting things you just helped build.
TMEs also have a heck of a lot of fun. We’re constantly learning and expanding our skills to find exciting new ways to show off our technology. Because of our unique position within the team and technical responsibilities, we’re often referred to as the technical conscience of the product team with the ability to see connections that could make the next product even better.
What you’ll do
Cisco’s IoT team is looking for a Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) to drive our technical direction and customer understanding of industrial switching. Technical Marketing Engineers bridge the gap between our Software Developers, Hardware Developers, Product Managers, Sales, and, of course, our customers. TMEs assist Product Managers and Engineers in product and solution design while also working with Partners, Sales Engineers, and Customers on deployment planning.
This role specifically will be leading the technical marketing efforts around our industrial switching product portfolio (IE1000, IE2000, IE3x00, IE4000, IE5000, IE9300). Our industrial switching portfolio builds on technology and architectures from our Enterprise Catalyst product lines and then takes it to the next level of ruggedness and reliability while adding in specific features required by the utility industry. If you have a strong background in industrial environments, manufacturing, mining, utilities, and other rugged environments, this is going to be really exciting for you. If you’ve been spending a lot of time with Enterprise switching including products such as the Catalyst 9000 family and technologies like SDA, this will be a whole lot more entertaining. Some of the typical environments your customers will be working in:
Responsibilities
Act as the expert for switching technologies in the fast-growing IoT industry.
Work within the diverse IoT TME team to support the wider spectrum of connectivity options including SDA and embedded security with Cyber Vision sensors.
Serve as the regional expert for both industrial switching and the broader IoT portfolio within the APJC region.
Test new products/technologies in the lab. Lab coat optional.
Develop and publish demo and training collateral for our various marketing publication platforms, including Cisco.com, dCloud, DevNet and SalesConnect.
Present at internal and external trade shows and conferences, such as Cisco Live!, SEVT and Industry Events.
Educate Cisco and partner sales teams so they can accurately and confidently represent our products.
Work directly with partners and customers on deployment planning and proofs of concept in a pre-sales environment.
Identify gaps in our product portfolio and training material and then work with the rest of the team to address those needs.
Provide guidance to product management and engineering for required features and their use-cases. Use your experience to make this the best possible product.
Who you are
3+ years of design and implementation experience with a deep understanding of Cisco switching technology and deployments, or extensive experience with industrial deployments.
Knowledgeable of Cisco routing and switching concepts and configuration. Familiarity with the IE family is great, but if you know the Enterprise Catalyst family you’ll be comfortable.
Understanding of customer deployment challenges with Industrial IoT deployments in areas such as.
Ability to understand and solve complex technical and business challenges while working independently. You want to be the expert in the room for your area.
Ability to work with engineering to dream up creative solutions to complex technical challenges to exceed customer expectations. You have an opinion about products and technology and you don’t mind sharing it.
You get excited about learning new things. There’s always something new to learn as a TME including products, technologies, architectures and customer problems.
Enjoy working within a diverse Technical Marketing team with global responsibilities and a wide range of backgrounds. You want to be the global expert. Your region is the planet Earth with limited orbital deployments (seriously).
You don’t mind sometimes working odd hours. Our IoT customers are spread around the globe and the TME role has global responsibilities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills at a variety of technical and business levels. You get excited when talking about technology and you can match the conversation to the audience.
Ability to distill complex technical concepts into understandable language.
Domestic and International Travel required up to ~25% of the time when travel is again permitted. You don’t mind hopping on an airplane, but you also like to spend time at home thinking and building.
