DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mayo Clinic is searching for a transformational leader to advance the world class Division of Infectious Diseases at its Destination Medical Center (DMC) in Phoenix & Scottsdale, Arizona. Mayo Clinic founders provided the vision of distinction and passion for innovative thinking and excellence which established Mayo’s legacy. Over the next four years, Mayo Clinic is making significant investments in both the physical and technological future of health care, through doubling the size of the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, inclusive of practice, education, and research activities to fulfill the Mayo vision of Cure, Connect and Transform and help build the Discovery Oasis, a joint collaboration between Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University, one of the leading science and technology institutions in the country. Mayo Clinic Arizona is expanding its hospital with a state-of-the-art design and is ranked #1 in Arizona and in the top hospitals nationally. Mayo Clinic Arizona is part of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCCC) one of the largest, comprehensive cancer centers in the world, treating more than 125,000 cancer patients each year. Mayo Clinic in Arizona has strong collaborations with Arizona State University, and a rich educational environment with Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine on site, as well as active residency and fellowship programs. As part of the Mayo Clinic Healthcare System with a single medical record system and close ties with the other two Mayo sites, this provides streamlined patient care and excellent opportunities for academic activity.
The Infectious Diseases Division at Mayo Clinic Arizona is well established as a referral practice for complex infectious diseases care in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The division supports the nation’s largest solid organ transplant program including heart, liver, kidney, pancreas and soon lung. The division collaborates with the Hematology-Oncology group to manage complex care of patients undergoing stem cell transplantation, chemotherapy and CAR-T cell infusions. Division staff are in the forefront of managing complex prosthetic and device related infections, neurosurgical infections and the critically ill. Additionally, the division directs programs in infection control and prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, outpatient antimicrobial therapy and microbial and regenerative therapeutics. Faculty are engaged in clinical research and education at all levels. The division supports a fellowship in infectious diseases and trains numerous residents and allied health staff. Fellows participate in programs at our quarternary referral medical center, the county department of public health, Phoenix Childrens Hospital and a collaborative HIV training program with Valleywise-McDowell Clinic. Mayo Clinic Arizona has one of the largest comprehensive clinics and multidisciplinary programs in Coccidioidomycosis including an institutional biobank.
The Infectious Diseases Division Chair will collaborate with the Department of Medicine Chair (Pankaj Pasricha, MBBS, MD) and the CEO of Mayo Clinic Arizona (Richard Gray, MD), their administrative partners, and other Divisional and Departmental leaders to achieve the facility’s overall mission and strategic goals. Candidates for the Division Chair must have a demonstrable track record of innovation in research and/or clinical practice systems with a commensurate track record of funding. The Department of Medicine is the largest Department at Mayo Clinic, Arizona and is committed to robust growth in research, discovery, and innovation over the next few years. It is expected that the Infectious Diseases Division Chair will be an effective partner in that growth, providing strategic direction over the three Mayo shields: clinical practice, research and education. The ability to mentor a group of diverse faculty covering all levels of experience is key.
