Lewis University seeks applications for a part-time Mental Health Counselor. Under the direction of the Director of Counseling Services,
the Mental Health Counselor will provide short-term counseling to students on a variety of issues, impacting the student’s academic
success and/or quality of life.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible to model the University Mission through
dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s
Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Provide short-term counseling to students addressing mental health concerns
or issues impacting their overall well-being, academic success and quality of life.
-Assist with the development and provision of
group counseling services as needed. Offer crisis intervention services to students in distress. May need to assist outside of scheduled
Center hours as indicated.
-Complete appropriate clinical documentation on all client and consultation contacts.
-Provide informational, evidenced-based psycho-educational programming to enhance student mental health and well-being.
-Offer consultation and communicate with collaterals, i.e., community-based providers, parents to provide care coordination and
follow-up when clinically appropriate and with release of information.
-Collaborate with university departments such as Dean of
Students, Athletics, Residence Life, CASE, Ministry, and others to offer psychoeducation and promote programming.
-Participate in
emergency preparedness planning training as required.
-Participate on campus committees and boards as approved by
supervisor.
-Participate in individual and group supervisory meeting/s as designated and appropriate.
-Offer
mentoring, modeling, service/client shadowing and collegial consultation support to graduate counseling interns as appropriate.
-Assist in planning for present and future clinical services and utilization of best practice and evidence-based treatment models and
initiatives.
-Make appropriate clinical referrals for students when outside of scope of Center’s service.
-Provide other assigned functions as appropriate that contribute to the service offerings of the Center and mission of the University
and are approved by supervisor.
-Adhere to policies of the Center and the University.
-Adhere to ethics of the
American Counseling Association and other Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
-Must maintain appropriate malpractice
and liability insurance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completed graduate degree program in Counseling or related
discipline. Minimum of one year clinical mental health counseling experience, can be practicum/internship. Current level licensure, i.e. LPC
under the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation is required. Must present demonstrated competence with multicultural and
other diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years plus clinical mental health counseling
experience with second level mental health license, LCPC. Experience working with college students in university-setting highly
preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
20 hours per week
Health and tuition benefits are available with
part-time employment.
Current published Center hours are 8:30am to 5 pm T/W/F and M/Thursday 8:30 to 6pm. Schedule may be subject to
change and assistance may be required outside Center hours to best accommodate service needs students or in crisis/emergency
situation.*Could be negotiated to cut back on hours during months of June, July and Dec and January when demand is lower for services.
