Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Hiring for Linux Analyst at Remote – Office of the Chancellor, PA, PA Full Time

Although this is a remote position, the successful candidate would be a resident of Pennsylvania.

The LINUX Analyst position is part of the PASSHE Office of the Chancellor technical team and will report to the Assistant Director of Technical Services to provide operation support to the Shared Administrative Systems and Office of the Chancellor initiatives.

The incumbent is expected to work directly with other Technical Services personnel to support shared systems including SAP Finance / Materials Management / Payroll / Human Resources / Business Warehouse. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with the SAP BASIS/HANA Administration Team, Executive Information Systems Teams, Microsoft OS Team, Networking Team, Campus Level IT personnel, and external technical resources.

Responsibilities:
Systems

• Work closely with staff and technical consultants on the SAP environment from the initial development phase through the go-live implementation phase, to ensure a high level of performance and availability.
• Perform all aspects of day-to-day administration and maintenance of all RedHat LINUX systems.
• Perform configuration and deployment of RedHat LINUX servers.
• Implement and support proactive system monitoring/maintenance policies and procedures.
• Implement and maintain “best practices” in RedHat LINUX OS deployment, configuration, performance, and security configurations.
• Configure servers utilizing standardized configuration guidelines.
• Maintain our Red Hat LINUX Kickstart automated OS install environment.
• Upgrade systems by consulting with vendors to test, evaluate, and implement enhancements and new features.
• Work closely with supervisor to install, support and maintain RedHat LINUX servers as related to supporting shared administrative systems, including SAP HANA systems.
• Create, publish, and maintain detailed documentation for all technical aspects of tasks performed by PASSHE staff or tasks distributed to remote support staff.
• Perform Shell/Perl scripting that will automate daily tasks and mundane procedures.
• Ensure the compliance of PASSHE RedHat LINUX servers, storage, and practices in regard to the guidelines provided by the CIO and the policies implemented by the PASSHE Board of Governors.
• Troubleshoot and resolve server access and connectivity issues.
• Learn and perform day-to-day administration of the Redwood job scheduling software.
• Participate in the operation, service and maintenance of hardware and software components of PASSHE’s server infrastructure.

Storage

• Provision NetApp, Dell, and other SAN based storage and configure file systems as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve FCAL and NFS storage access and connectivity issues.
• Perform administration and maintenance of Brocade SAN switches.
• Perform administration and maintenance of internal and external storage devices.
• Participate in the operation, service and maintenance of hardware and software components of PASSHE’s SAN storage infrastructure.
• Install, test, and implement SAN based and server-based storage devices and upgrades.

Data Protection

• Maintain and enhance the CommVault backup, recovery, and disaster recovery environment.
• Participate in all aspects of the day-to-day administration and maintenance of our CommVault based backup environment.
• Configure, test, and monitor automated “Hot” and “Cold” backup client policies that protect application data.
• Perform on-demand backups and restores of production application data.
• Rotate backup media on and off site as required.
• Proactively monitor and respond to issues identified in the backup server and storage environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve all identified client-side backup and recovery technical issues.
• Participate in annual Disaster Recovery testing activities.
• Participate in the operation, service, and maintenance of hardware and software components of PASSHE’s backup hardware and software infrastructure.

Operations and Customer Service

• Possess a customer service attitude to meet and exceed customer expectations per service level agreements.
• Act as primary server support staff for all end users of the RedHat LINUX servers, storage, and backup infrastructure.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support as needed. Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance activities as required.
• Travel to our datacenters as required to perform technical tasks and/or pickup-deliver duplicate offsite backup tapes.
• Provide status reports to supervisors and peers on a regular basis regarding project timeliness and deliverables.
• Maintain a high level of knowledge and proficiency related to current as well as emerging information technology equipment, software, and practices.
• Accomplish team and organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Participate in regular Team and change control meetings.
• Attendance of technical training as required.
• Receive and respond to automated problem notifications related to server, storage, and backup systems support.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• BA / BS degree OR associate degree OR comparable technical LINUX experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in RedHat/LINUX operating system administration (installation, maintenance, tuning) and Shell scripting.
• A minimum of 2 years of demonstrable experience in the configuration and installation of Enterprise Class hardware.
• A minimum of 2 years of demonstrable experience in administration of Enterprise Class CommVault or comparable backup and recovery environment(s).
• A minimum of 1 year of demonstrable experience in the administration of Enterprise Class SANs and storage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with VMware or other virtualization products.
• Strong time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
• Current expertise and/or professional certifications related to the following areas are desirable:
