RESPONSIBILITIES
What You Can Expect Day-to-Day
Contributing as a customer-focused freight agent, you’ll secure new accounts and expedite sharing of information and documentation between customers and carriers. You’ll communicate with dispatchers and drivers to track the status of loads, executing the following core activities:
· Generate leads and attract new prospects, and develop a sales pipeline
· Identify and select reputable and safe carriers for freight services
· Provide customers with shipping quotes
· Book orders with carriers
· Assist in preparing carriers for loads
· Track the status of loads
· Collaborate with shippers, carriers, and dispatchers to manage scheduled collections and drop-offs
· Keep accurate records of relevant activities
· Update customers on the status of shipments and assist with other inquiries
· Maintain current knowledge of market trends in the transportation marketplace
SUCCESS METRICS
What “Good” Looks Like
As a successful freight agent, you’ll be able to:
· Develop and increase profitable volume with existing and newly acquired shippers
· Build relationships with developing accounts
· Use strong relationships to understand customer’s business, better qualifying them to identify rates
· Contact and build relationships with carriers
· Increase capacity for specific projects and lanes
· Gain up-to-date personal knowledge of market freight rates in order to determine a “fair” price to pay trucks and charge shippers
REQUIREMENTS
What it Takes
The most successful Freight Agents are exceptional, custom-focused sales professionals with a drive to succeed.
Minimum Required:
To ensure success in this position, you need to maintain current knowledge of freight carrier services and be effective in attracting new customers and ensuring customer retention.
· Must have a book of business or leads
· 2+ yrs. logistics sales experience, working with (3PL customers)
· Experience in supply chain logistics and freight marketing
· Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to maximize income on a commission basis(no commission caps)
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites/Home office established
· Excellent problem-solving skills
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Outstanding people skills
· Proficient negotiating skills
· Demonstrated ability to meet sales targets
· Strong work ethic
