Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a two-year position in Film at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: screenwriting, directing, and/or post-production. Kenyon’s film program leans in the direction of narrative filmmaking, but non-fiction filmmakers are encouraged to apply as well. Candidates should also be able to teach a film history/studies/theory class of their choosing and will be expected to teach the Introduction to Film class. This position has a teaching load of five classes a year.
The film program is housed in the state-of-the-art Wright Center facility, which includes a soundstage, post-production facility and 35-seat screening room. Candidates must possess an M.F.A. or other terminal degree. Applications should be submitted by January 15th, 2024 for full consideration. Appointment begins July 1, 2024, but on-campus presence isn’t necessary until mid-August.
All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon’s employment website at https://careers.kenyon.edu. A complete application will include 1) a cover letter that includes an articulation of the applicant’s filmmaking and teaching philosophy, including experience with, and plans for, teaching diverse student populations; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a portfolio of professional work (short films, excerpts from longer film/video work, full-length screenplays, etc; film analysis or reviews will be considered but should not be the primary examples of work) and 4) contact information for three professional references. Additional materials such as letters of reference may be requested from candidates at the finalist stage. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
