Tenure Track in American Studies:
Kenyon College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in American Studies beginning 1 July 2024. We are especially interested in applicants with backgrounds in critical ethnography, whose research and teaching interests explore race and ethnicity in relation to critiques of capitalism. The successful candidate will teach a full-time 3-2 course load with four courses in American Studies and one course in another affiliated discipline, such as African Diaspora Studies, Anthropology, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latine Studies, Political Science, or Sociology, depending on the applicant’s expertise.
The position will allow the selected candidate to develop a repertoire of courses in their field of expertise at all levels. American Studies members share in teaching the department’s required courses and supporting senior majors in developing their Capstone Projects. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and a completed Ph.D. (preferably in American Studies though related disciplines will be considered) or be near completion by the beginning of the appointment. A complete application consists of 1) a cover letter discussing the applicant’s research and scholarship, its relevance to the field or discipline, and prior teaching experience; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) an unofficial graduate transcript; and 4) names and contact information for three recommenders. Letters of recommendation, a writing sample, as well as sample syllabi, will be requested for candidates who proceed to the next round. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon’s employment website: http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin December 20, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. Complete applications received by the December 20th deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.
