PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Advisor Employee Relations, you will provide expertise on handling of employee relations matters related to discrimination, harassment and violence in the workplace. As a strategic partner, you will support the Company’s Employee Relations function with a goal of ensuring corporate compliance with employment-related legislative requirements, corporate values, code of ethics and improvement of corporate culture.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Handling of harassment, violence, and discrimination complaints at all stages, from receipt through investigation, conciliation or mediation with a high level of confidentiality
• Provide regular updates on the status of cases to business stakeholders. Conduct prompt, thorough, and complex investigations, including conducting interviews with concern raisers, witnesses and subjects, assessing risk, reviewing documentation, and making recommendations/corrective actions in the context of an investigation; in partnership with Legal, Labor Relations and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
• Prepare high quality written reports of the investigation, which provide a clear and logical account of the allegations, investigative work performed, key findings and conclusions, ensuring that the conclusion is evidence based. Where appropriate, and in consultation with appropriate stakeholders, make recommendations as to corrective actions
• Provide briefings to senior leaders on investigative matters
• Partner with Legal and HR community to understand trends or changing legal requirements and regulations
• Monitor open cases assigned to you to ensure timeline and compliant closure, using established guidelines
• Handle inquiries from Executives, Managers, and other employees (unionized and non-unionized) on any employment-related issue for successful resolution
• Work collaboratively with Labor relations, legal services, and business leaders on employee relations matters
• Provide guidance and support on workplace accommodations
• Understand and interpret several union agreement sections pertaining to handling of investigations and complaints
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with peers in Human Resources, Legal, Labour Relations, Union and Executive Leadership and teams throughout the organization

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience with workplace human element investigations, providing recommendations and solutions to workplace issues
• Strong knowledge of Canada Labor Code and Canadian Human Rights Act
• Experience facilitating human rights courses such as sensitivity training or respect in the workplace training
• Experience handling human rights complaints, investigating, writing responses to how the Company is dealing with these types of complaints
• Proven communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization
• Ability to make independent decisions, manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment and effectively interface with high-level business and operations leaders
• Strong written and presentation skills
• Bilingual in English and French
