Middle School Teacher – Math and Science
Position Summary – Instructing children in the areas set forth in the school’s curriculum within the spirit of the Lutheran school purpose and mission and lending leadership to the congregation.
Accountability
· To the Minister of Education/Principal and to the School Board
· To all other school and church personnel as a loyal and cooperative team member serving as a Christian role model to the students
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or higher
· Has met the standards for or is actively pursuing the standards for elementary or middle school certification by the state of Texas (within two years of hire)
· Understands and is committed to the overall ministry of Lutheran Education in church and school
· Active member of Christian church, prefer active member in Lutheran Church
· Associates closely with God through prayer, study of the Bible, and regular communion; attends, participates and is visible in church activities
· Is able to relate to children and recognizes each as a unique gift of God
· Able to maintain job responsibilities with little or no supervision
· Prefer synodically trained and accredited teachers
Responsibilities
· Establish and maintain a teaching/learning environment
· Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
· Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
· Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities; follow the curriculum
· Actively promote and maintain open communication with staff in a feedback rich environment
· Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students
· Maintain accurate and complete student records
· Enforce policies and rules governing students
· Challenge and encourage students to explore learning opportunities

· Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and determine priorities and resource needs
· Integrate technology as part of instruction
· Confer with other staff members to ensure vertical alignment
· Participate in professional development and continuing education
· Perform administrative duties as assigned
· Administer standardized achievement tests and interpret results
· Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees
· Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and other experiential activities
· Inventory classroom textbooks and materials
· Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests
· Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of middle school programs

· Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
· Assisting and Caring for Others — Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others
· Thinking Creatively — Developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products
· Psychology – Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
