Job Summary
The Department of Agriculture at Illinois State University is seeking a passionate, student-focused candidate for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position in horticulture. The qualified candidate will require an M.S. degree in horticulture, plant sciences, or a related field and will teach lecture and laboratory courses such as Introductory Horticulture, Woody Plant Identification, Landscape Management, Ornamental Plant Production and other horticulture or agriculture courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Additional courses in general education to support the Departmental teaching program may be required. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with the faculty, staff, and students in the Horticulture and Landscape Management sequence, Horticulture Center, and the Agriculture Department to share resources and facilities and to support the teaching, research, and outreach mission of the Agriculture Department.

Required Qualifications
1. Master of Science Degree in Horticulture, Plant Sciences, or a related field of study.
2. Demonstrated experience in teaching ornamental horticulture.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in plant identification and production techniques.
4. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous teaching experience in cooperative extension or at the community college or 4-year university level of courses such as woody plant identification, landscape management and construction, nursery and greenhouse production, and ornamental plant production.
2. Experience using greenhouse and outdoor teaching facilities.
3. Demonstrated experience with hands-on learning and teaching laboratory course sections.
4. Experience in teaching using online and/or learning management systems (Canvas).
5. Experience working with traditional and non-traditional students from a diverse background.
6. Previous pesticide application licensure and qualification.
7. Demonstrated commitment to our university core values of learning and scholarship, individualized attention, diversity and inclusion, civic engagement, respect, integrity, and collaboration.
8. Ability to teach general education courses in agriculture or related field to support the teaching mission of the Agriculture Department.
