Qualifications for Employment
Education (Minimum Requirements):
Master’s degree in psychology, or related field.
Employment Experience Preferred:
Experience working in higher education with a focus on at risk and underprepared student populations.
One year of employment experience in the area of academic support and outreach services in a school setting with diverse and non-traditional populations preferred.
Pertinent Other:
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and experience with Ellucian Banner a plus. Engaging, accepting and patient personality. Ability to work well with others as part of a team with demonstrated verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Will be required to work occasional evenings/weekends.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Student Development Specialist reports to the Associate Dean of Student Development/and/or their designee and performs the following duties within the offices in the Student Development Unit:
1. Works with the Associate Dean of Student Development to assess and address needs of Student Development offices in regard to staffing, outreach and programming.
2. Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence informed best practices and programming to foster student development, persistence, retention, and achievement of desired outcomes.
3. Assists with the development and maintenance of relationships with academic departments and campus offices for the purposes of offering support and encouraging referrals to student development offices.
4. Provides direct support and consultation to students in the areas of career and/or transfer counseling and academic coaching, and refers student to other appropriate people on campus to obtain assistance.
5. Assists the Center for Access and Assistive technology with proctoring tests and exams during high peak times on an as needed basis.
6. Supports students in developing an academic and/or personal success plan focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities to facilitate reaching education and career goal attainment.
7. Collaborates and partners with interdisciplinary campus groups to develop comprehensive student development outreach and programming.
8. Provides informational presentations to students and prospective students about student development offices and support offerings.
9. Assists with the evaluation for student requests for emergency funding in collaboration with the Foundation and the CASP program, determining eligibility, immediate need, and amount of award following a case management approach.
10. Provides data and reports based on student support and outreach efforts as requested.
11. Assists other offices within Student Development on an as needed basis.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time 37.5 hour work week position with a salary of $47,500.00.
