Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. Qualifications for Employment
Education (Minimum Requirements):
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Aviation Management, or related field, or equivalent experience required. Ten years of experience of relevant aviation instruction, aviation program management or aviation maintenance program management, with five years of supervisory experience required. Experience with FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) schools is required. FAA certification as a ground or flight instructor is required. Master’s Degree and experience working with federal, state, and local aviation agencies and regulations preferred.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to manage projects and resources, provide aviation instruction, work collaboratively with internal and external teams, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and a logical and systematic approach to business processes. The candidate must possess excellent relationship management skills, a demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions, efficient time management skills, and the ability to work under pressure, maintain accuracy and keep to deadlines. The candidate must understand the challenges and functions of a large complex organization with the ability to review and evaluate projects and multifaceted programs, strong interpersonal skills to be able to successfully interact with administration, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, and strong problem-solving and prioritization skills also required.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Aeronautical Technical Institute (ATI) Administrative Instructor reports to the Vice President for Community, Professional, and Workforce Development or their designee, and performs the following duties:
1. Serve as the senior, technical expert for all HVCC aviation operations to include the development, operation, curriculum, procedures, and future growth of the Aeronautical Technical Institute (ATI);
2. Develop and resource the program, curriculum, staff, facilities, and equipment for an Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) certificated by the FAA in accordance with 14 CFR part 147;
3. Effectively organize, prepare, and instruct assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi to students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly;
4. Collaborate with College leadership, faculty and professional staff colleagues, and others to conceptualize, develop, manage, and complete cross-functional projects and assignments, particularly in building awareness and preparedness for project-related disruptions affecting students, faculty, staff, and visitors;
5. Conduct routine and periodic coordination and liaison with all relevant federal, state, and local stakeholders to include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Albany International Airport, the New York National Guard, and other relevant stakeholders or their designated representatives;
6. Maintain program certification in accordance with 14 CFR Part 147;
7. Develop a broad vision for the expansion and development of the ATI to include additional maintenance programs as well as manned and unmanned aircraft systems;
8. Work with college faculty and administrators to develop a formal curriculum for credit (Associates Degree) which meets all college, SUNY, and state education requirements;
9. Develop a formal Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification Council (JSAMTCC) course for transitioning military personnel to obtain federal certification for their military skills;
10. Collect and analyze information and develop recommendations for updates to current and projected procedures, budgetary requirements, and growth to meet the needs to the organization, stakeholders, and community;
11. Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on a regular basis;
12. Supervise, review, and participate in curriculum development, revision, and assessment activities at course, program, department, and college levels for all current and future programs;
13. Discuss program, career, transfer options, and other college services with students to support informed academic decisions;
14. Participate in the development and/or execution of departmental and college tasks, projects, and goals;
15. Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas;
16. Provide supervision and training to staff;
17. Disseminate and monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures by Administration, faculty and staff;
18. Track and maintain the ATI’s annual operating budget and cost savings and cost avoidance;
19. Assist with the acquisition, acceptance, and receiving of aviation equipment and supplies on campus and the completion of required documentation in accordance with federal, state, local and college regulations and procedures;
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
The pay rate for this position is up to $90,000/ year commensurate with experience. This is a 12-month, year-round position classified as management confidential.
