Houghton University Looking for Assistant or Associate Professor of Sport Management and Assistant Director of EPIC Adventures – Tenure Track Full Time

Description:

Houghton University invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment in Sport, Recreation, and Wellness, in the School of
Management and Creative Arts, at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, starting in the fall semester of 2024. This position will
include responsibilities with EPIC Adventures, an experiential outdoor learning program, which could start in the summer of 2024, for
additional compensation. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses within the field of expertise and supporting and building
the sport, recreation, and wellness programs. A successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in sport management and health
promotion and fitness (e.g. Principles of Coaching, Organization and Management of Athletics, Sports Marketing and Communication,
Psychosocial Aspects of Sport, and Holistic Health) and foundational courses (e.g. Principles of Sport, Recreation, and Wellness for Life).
Teaching will be in person, with some online teaching opportunities. Responsibilities will include teaching 18-19 hours per year plus 6
hours of release time for responsibilities associated with EPIC, advising students, departmental collaboration, service, and scholarship.
Additional responsibilities include the development and design of new courses and redesign of existing courses as needed, as well as
supervision of field experiences, internships, and experiential learning. EPIC Adventures responsibilities include experiential programming
which could occur during the week, evenings/weekends, and academic breaks. These responsibilities include facilitation and recruitment of
groups in both indoor and outdoor settings, and mentoring students in leadership, teaching, risk management, and technical skill development
and could involve summer responsibilities for additional compensation. This position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling,
pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh 50-75 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day and can involve
both inside and outside work in all ranges of temperature and weather.

Required qualifications

The selected candidate will have:

• an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in
  sports management, athletic administration, health promotion, or a related field.
• mature Christian faith
• strong
  communication and interpersonal skills
• a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching
• an interest in
  integrating Christian faith into their teaching
• the ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people
  who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experience, with sensitivity to factors that affect our own assessment of others.
• an interest and willingness to support and mentor undergraduate students, including collaborative research

Preferred qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• experience teaching at the
  undergraduate level and online
• the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, and commitment to a positive, fun, and
  team-oriented work environment.
• experience in additional outdoor pursuits including, but not limited to: ropes course facilitation,
  water sports (canoeing, kayaking, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding), winter sports (skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding), mountain
  biking, backpacking, or rock climbing.
• demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan, prioritize, and
  delegate across multiple projects.

Starting salary will be dependent on the candidates’ qualifications and
experience

Anticipated Salary Range: $42,000-$56,000
