Description
The mission of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law is to prepare, challenge and inspire our
students to make a difference in the world while we advance important ideas through the legal academy, the profession and society – making
an impact of our own. Since 1970, Hofstra Law has provided more than 13,000 students with an education rich in both the theory and
experiential skills needed to produce outstanding lawyers, business executives, and community leaders.
The Maurice A. Deane School of
Law at Hofstra University is pleased to invite applications for Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Law (“Clinical Professor”) to
direct our Deportation Defense Clinic (“DDC”).
The Deportation Defense Clinic was established at Hofstra after the 2016 presidential
election to protect those immigrants on Long Island who are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of increased deportation enforcement
and will conduct that work in a number of ways. The Clinical Professor supervises law students in the representation of individuals at high
risk of deportation, such as those with removal orders or those losing status due to new federal policies. The DDC engages in impact
litigation and collaborates with existing community organizations and networks on non-litigation community lawyering projects in support of
Long Island’s immigrant communities. These projects aim to tackle the systemic issues often impossible to address through individual-client
litigation.
The Hofstra Law Clinic, where the DDC is housed, was established in 1973 and is an integral part of the Law School. The
Law School has several additional clinical offerings, including three that also work with immigrant populations: Asylum, Immigration, and
Youth Advocacy.
The Clinical Professor will be responsible for all aspects of running the DDC, including, but not limited to, the
following:
