THE DEPARTMENT:
We understand that most of our students will take only one philosophy course during their college studies. They are interested in personal growth. So we teach philosophy as a way to think about the big questions in life.
We offer career skills that are universal and transferable. We teach analysis, and critical thinking, and how to use these to become more powerful readers, writers and thinkers.
Beginning students may not have an accurate understanding of what philosophy is, or what the benefits of studying philosophy may be. We will teach them these things.
At the heart of many traditions of philosophy are ideals of cognitive and moral autonomy – becoming able to live one’s own life in one’s own way. These values are active in all of our courses.
Our staffing priorities:
We need a strong instructor with training in applied/ workplace ethics.
We need teachers trained in philosophy with pluralistic, multicultural, and comparative perspectives;
