Health Research, Inc. Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to work within the Wadsworth Center’s Division of Environmental Health Sciences. The goal is to assess human exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g., heavy metals, PFAS, pesticides, PAHs) that are present in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. The incumbent in this position will support the Laboratory’s large-scale biomonitoring studies, specifically by analyzing clinical samples for (ultra-) trace levels of organic chemicals using techniques based on chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC/GC-MS). The incumbent will also maintain appropriate laboratory documentation, prepare quality control samples, process data, prepare reports and standard operating procedures, and assist with other appropriate related duties.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, environmental science or a related field and one year of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an analytical organic laboratory.
Experience with sample preparation and analysis of biological/clinical samples for organic chemical analysis.
Hands on experience and in-depth knowledge of gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS), automated solid phase extraction (SPE) and other related techniques.
Experience with the analysis of volatile organic compounds in biological samples.
Experience working within a CLIA-regulated laboratory performing high complexity testing, reporting patient test results, writing CLIA-compliant SOPs, preparing for CLIA-audits and inspections, and other activities related to the clinical quality management system.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be unavailable.
