Reporting directly to both the Vice President of Care Transformation Services and the Chief Nursing Officer of Raritan Bay Medical Center, this position is accountable for implementing the strategic plan for care delivery systems across the Medical Center, which is fully aligned to the HMH Nursing strategic plan. The Nursing Director for Patient Care assesses, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front-line leaders and staff team members. This person is responsible for executing and advancing the scope of practice, professional standards and care delivery systems as they directly relate to patient care, patient satisfaction and quality and safety outcomes for the Medical Center. The Nursing Director for Patient Care has administrative oversight for assigned patient care units and departments. He/she will work with the departmental managers to ensure excellent clinical, service, financial, quality, and growth outcomes aligned with the HMH nursing strategic plan. He/she will promote compliance with quality and safety initiatives and will foster effective collaborative relationships between units/departments throughout the HMH network. Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director, Nursing Patient Care at Hackensack Meridian Health can be described as follows:

• Participates in the implementation of the Medical Center’s and the network’s HMH Nursing strategic plans, performance improvement program, Human Resources program, and annual operating budget, plans, goals and objectives.
• Demonstrates a clear vision that supports HMH’s vision, mission and shared values; maintains a big picture view: foresees challenges and opportunities; generates break through ideas through innovation.
• Plans, organizes, and provides administrative oversight of assigned patient care units and/or departments
• Ensures attainment of clinical, service, financial, quality, and growth parameters for assigned patient care units/departments.
• Monitors nursing standards of practice, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory agencies.
• Develops and implements short and long-term goals for all areas assigned in alignment with the Medical Center’s and HMH Nursing strategic plans. Prioritizes organizational goals and incorporates them into standard work, up to and including leading and/or participating in organizational-level committee work with clear performance improvement goals that is consistent with the mission, vision and philosophy of nursing and the organization.
• Supports the Magnet Program Director and Magnet program by ensuring the support of a shared governance model, collection of data, writing of exemplars and coordination of the document as requested.

• Supports High Reliability Organization (HRO) environment with a focus on patient and employee safety. Participates in review of ONELink/safety events and partners with Patient Safety Officer on any follow-up activities.
• Reviews current scheduling policies and adjusts to utilization needs in collaboration with managers.
• Ensures all nursing research activities are directed through the Research Council and when appropriate through the IRB.
• Contributes to process improvement projects in support of patient care. Provides project management support to the nursing division.
• Acts as a liaison for the unit(s) and provides physicians, families, and ancillary departments with direction and/or assistance as needed
• Responds to patients and families as necessary. Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information
• Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network as well as the proper release of information.
• Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Bachelors (BA/BS/BSN) and Masters (MA/MS/MSN/MBA/MPA) or Bachelors (BA/BS/BSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP) degree are required. One degree must be in nursing.
• At least 5 years of progressive leadership in related fields is required
• Excellent financial management, delegation, and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with colleagues, personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public; and possess an understanding of people and a sense of accountability, fairness, and consistency
• Established analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Established coaching skills that inspire team members, leaders, and physicians to execute and comply with network strategies.
• Capacity to collaborate with diverse populations of team members and physicians to gain consensus and achieve results.
• Proven writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• PhD or DNP
• Experience in labor relations
• 5 years of clinical experience preferred
• Proven competence in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) or Google Productivity Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides)

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
• National nursing administration certification (Must attain national nursing certification within 1st year of employment.)
