Preschool Teacher

Grade: Ages from 2 to 5 years olds

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 hour shift

Good Shepherd Lutheran Elementary School is seeking a full-time and part-time preschool teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The mission of GSLS is to offer an enriched educational environment with academic excellence in a nurturing Christian environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of early childhood education and a passion for a play-based curriculum. He/She will have demonstrated success in teaching children ages 2 to 5. We are looking for a caring and professional teacher who will collaborate with the co-teacher to plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction. We have a dedicated, joyful, and dynamic team of teachers at our preschool who are the cornerstone of our program. The candidate should possess the skills and passion necessary to inspire learning and build a child’s social, emotional, and academic skills in a supportive environment. We are located on the campus of an elementary school, which allows for interaction with older children at appropriate times.

Qualifications

• A minimum of twelve Early Childhood Education units required
• Familiarity with appropriate curriculum and standards
• Minimum of 2 years experience teaching in a preschool setting
• Experience with 2-3-year-olds highly preferred
• CPR/1st Aid is highly recommended

The Preschool Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a NAEYC-appropriate program.

• Prepare children for kindergarten by introducing concepts they will explore further in kindergarten and elementary school education
• Work with children in groups or one on one, depending on the needs of children and the subject matter
• Carry out lessons that target different areas of child development, such as language, fine motor, gross motor, and social skills
• Organize activities so children can learn about the world, explore interests, and develop talents
• Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
• Watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring problems to the attention of parents
• Keep records of the student’s progress, routines, and interests, and keep parents informed about their child’s development
• Be flexible in an ever-changing environment in response to shifting health department guidelines

Young children learn from playing, problem-solving, questioning, and experimenting. Preschool teachers use play and other instructional techniques to teach children about the world. For example, they use storytelling and rhyming games to teach language and vocabulary. They may help improve children’s social skills by having them work together to build a neighborhood in a sandbox or teach math by having children count when building with blocks.

Preschool teachers work with children from different ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. Teachers include topics in their lessons to teach children to respect people of different backgrounds and cultures. We value an inclusive environment at our school.
