About the Department/Unit:
IDEAS: The Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) provides a unified point to connect government, industry, and academia to advance foundational research, and accelerate the adoption of Big Data technology. IDEaS leverages expertise and resources from throughout Georgia Tech’s colleges, research labs, and external partners, to define and pursue grand challenges in data science foundations and in data-driven discovery. We are also dedicated to educating students and those already in the workforce through innovative educational and training programs.
Interactive Computing: Georgia Tech’s School of Interactive Computing (IC) aims to redefine the human experience of computing. using two primary tools: research and innovation in computing education. IC nurtures an open, inclusive, supportive environment made stronger through multiple perspectives and diverse expertise. Among other areas, IC research focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning; human-centered computing and cognitive science; learning science and technology, and computing education; Together, these areas form a rich, panoramic view of the myriad ways computing and computational devices interact with their human creators and users.
The National Artificial Intelligence Research Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE) invites applications for multiple Research Scientist I positions. Funded by NSF and headquartered at Georgia Tech, AI-ALOE aims to leverage AI technologies for transforming adult education in effectiveness, efficiency, scale, and personalization, thereby making it more available, achievable. and equitable. The hiring of the RS1 will be through Georgia Tech’s Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS). The initial appointment will be for one year (renewable for additional years) with competitive salaries.

The RS1 will be expected to help design, develop, test, and field AI cognitive assistants for question answering, intelligent textbooks, interactive learning environments, smart videos, and social belonging. The responsibilities also may include requirements analysis, documentation, and testing with human subjects. Adaptive and personalized learning is a major aspect of all these projects. The RS1 will work in small teams including other research scientists, faculty, and students.

B.S. in Computer Science or a related discipline.
2 3 years of experience in software development.
A strong background in design, development, testing, and fielding of software systems.
Experience in AI research and development.

Knowledge, skills and abilities in computing technology, including programing (Java, Python) and software development (AWS, GIT).
Ability to take initiative and to work independently in a collaborative working environment.
