The National Institute for Student Success at Georgia State University (NISS) is dedicated to helping colleges and universities identify and resolve institutionally-created barriers to equity and college completion. Through diagnostic services and practitioner-led coaching, collectively known as NISS high-touch services, the Institute enables campus leaders to implement proven student-success systems and data-driven interventions and to enact systemic change to institutional processes and structures.
The Data Analyst will serve as the lead data analytics expert in the analysis of institutional data collected during diagnostic and practitioner-led coaching engagements with NISS partner institutions. They will provide advanced level expertise in managing, manipulating, maintaining/storing, and retrieving routine and complex types of data for multiple uses and disciplines. The position performs a standard set of quantitative and qualitative analyses to discover opportunities for partner institutions to improve based on granular student outcome data. The process will highlight key metrics and leading indicators of student success that will allow NISS personnel to track progress of partner institutions, as well as identify other potential candidates for NISS high touch services and support. The Data Analyst will work with other NISS diagnosticians to conduct a detailed review of key student success programmatic areas across institutional partners, including self-reported program maturity and key data points that reveal potential causes of poor student outcomes and performance.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Analyze, interpret, and visualize institutional quantitative data via IPEDS, surveys and other data sources.
· Respond to data requests by identifying the correct data source, developing the logic to extract the data, and creating insights based on the analysis of the extracted data.
· Analyze, monitor, and revise data storage and access processes.
· Support various research and project collaborations with NISS and GSU partners.
· Analyze, prepare, and present reports to key stakeholders.
· Convert data into a variety of useable formats and media.
· Test, document, and perform quality assurance on data.
· Develop and test tools, which aid in the management, manipulation, maintenance/storage, and retrieval of routine and complex types of data.
· Train users and developers in methods of identifying correct data sources for various requests, developing extraction logic, and determining best business practices in functional offices.
· Consult with staff in functional areas on mechanisms used for data entry and maintenance procedures.
· Perform other advanced level data administration duties as assigned.
· Perform analyses using various statistical methods and techniques with a broad range of tools for data manipulation and visualization reporting.
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
Knowledge of data processing principles and practices.
· Knowledge of relational database principles.
· Knowledge of SQL
· Experience with statistical programming languages such as R or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
· Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik
· Knowledge of data administration in higher education.
· Effective time management, customer service, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
