The Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor of Health Sciences for the academic year 2023-2024. The home campus for this position will be the Armstrong campus.

Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 50 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHS) program currently has approximately 300 students that specialize in either a Generalist or Health Informatics concentration.
Position Description: Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, the Visiting Instructor of Health Sciences position requires teaching undergraduate courses such as: Health Communication, Research Methods, Introduction to Health Informatics, Management of Health Information, Analysis of Healthcare Data, Health Issues and Resources, Health Policy Issues, Principles of Knowledge Management and Decision Support, and Health and Human Development. The primary focus of the position will be teaching five courses, or the equivalent of 15 semester hours, each semester. This is a 10-month appointment (August 2023 – May 2024), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are one-year non-tenure track appointments.
Required Qualifications:
Earned master’s degree in Health Sciences, Health Informatics, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2023 with 18 graduate semester hours in Health Sciences, Health Informatics, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field.
Ability to teach online courses.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching college/university courses in Health Sciences.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution;
All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy;
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus;
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
