Job Description Summary
The Research Enhancement Officer is responsible for leading the Research Enhancement Unit (REU) at the George Washington University (GW), which is a central administrative unit within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR). A large part of REU’s mission is to advance the competitiveness of GW’s research by designing and executing activities aimed at securing extramural funding, with additional attention to interdisciplinary programs, and laying the foundation for sustainable research growth.
The Research Enhancement Officer will support the OVPR leadership and service principles of collaboration, service, continuous innovation, diversity and inclusion, and accountability.
Job Description Summary:
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Research, the Research Enhancement Officer at GW plays a pivotal role in advancing university-wide research endeavors. This position is responsible for designing, developing and implementing strategies, programs, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality, visibility, and impact of research and scholarly activities across the university. The position manages a suite of information technologies and other services to effectively communicate, coordinate and support research development initiatives.
The Research Enhancement Unit works to promote cross-campus research; facilitate collaborations; conduct workshops and training; develop resources to streamline proposal development and to support the goals and initiatives of the research enterprise. The REU supports symposia, program officer visits, and structured programs focused on high-priority opportunities. Additionally, the REU leads internal competitions, such as intramural funding and limited submissions.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
