OVERVIEW
The General Mills Milwaukee Plant manufactures and distributes snacks for the North American Retail and Convenience & Foodservice Business segments. The site’s product portfolio includes Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Bugles, and Gardetto’s. Located 6miles south of downtown Milwaukee, the site was built in 1968 and owned by the Gardetto family until it was acquired by General Mills in 1999.
The Sr. Manufacturing Process & Packaging Engineer is responsible to identify, lead, develop, and execute solutions for performance improvements and loss elimination through strong business partnership, strategic productivity, capacity solutions, and continuous improvement efforts. This role also serves as a technical resource and liaison to drive successful commercialization of business initiatives.
This position will provide technical leadership as an equipment, system, and product specialist for the Packaging Systems at the Milwaukee Plant. This role reports to the Plant Technical Manager.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Human and Food Safety
- Understand and provide expertise for human and food safety systems as they apply to packaging and process systems.
Technical Knowledge
- Demonstrate understanding of equipment functionality and key process transformations.
- Demonstrate expertise in machine, materials, methods, environment, and personnel to provide robust operating systems.
- Demonstrate and coach problem solving tools & methodologies.
- Demonstrate expertise in manufacturing information systems (MA, MQIS, RMT, Maximo, SAP, PLM, etc.)
- Leverage data and information systems to identify and drive decision making (performance metrics, financial information, data historian, maintenance management system)
- Develop and maintain material balances and unit operation capability information to ensure optimal production rates, parameters, and formulas.
- Demonstrate understanding of quality metrics, analysis methods, and procedures.
Technical Leadership
- Apply technical knowledge and leadership to solve problems and drive improvements on processing systems.
- Provide leadership in application of performance metrics (data accuracy)
- Coach and provide technical expertise on foundational systems (process centerline, CILs, basic conditions, etc.)
- Develop and deliver technical training for various levels of the organization and serve as a resource in cross-functional platform/technology/product teams.
- Serve as a technical liaison for the system including production and maintenance employees, plant technical and leadership team, other manufacturing sites, corporate engineering and R&D organizations, and external partners.
Holistic Margin Management:
- Identify and implement HMM solutions to drive to Zero Loss
- Partner with R&D, Quality, Operations, and Engineering/Maintenance to drive system improvements & reduce product overuse.
Product and Technology Commercialization:
- Partner with R&D and project teams to provide technical support for capital projects, tests, trials, and new products.
Future State Strategy:
- Lead development of future state (cost and capacity)
- Lead development of current and future state Loss Tree/Glidepath
- Provide technical expertise in development of improvement plan
- Identify, develop, lead & execute equipment and system improvements that deliver financial and performance benefits (overuse reduction, reliability improvements)
- Develop and champion a system vision, technical road map. and capital needs to support Long Range Plan
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
- 4+ years related work experience in technical roles in process and/or packaging engineering, process/system development, product development, quality engineering, or manufacturing
- Demonstrates learning agility, technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, and trouble-shooting abilities
- Demonstrates ability to work with and influence diverse groups at various levels and across functions
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communication, and strong listening skills
- Demonstrated advanced data analysis and statistical capabilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with General Mills’ plant manufacturing system(s) working with plant operators, maintenance, leadership, and research and development
- Experience with Process Lead Role/Foundational Systems
- Experience with coaching and teaching
- Experience working with external suppliers
- Expertise with Troubleshooting Tools and facilitating root cause analysis

- International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $90100.00 – $135300.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee’s pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
