Responsibilities
The Director of Research Compliance reports to the Vice President for Research and works collaboratively with the faculty, staff, and chairs of regulatory committees and the directors/heads of other university units responsible for research compliance. This position is responsible for the development, oversight, and monitoring of a research compliance program for the University.
The compliance program includes, but is not limited to, data management and information security/privacy, human subjects, animal care and use, export controls and foreign influence (visiting scholars, visa applicants, foreign talent programs, etc.), technical reporting, biosafety, stem cell research, use of drones in research, intellectual property, research misconduct, funding agencies’ financial conflict of interest policies, institutional and organizational conflicts of interest, and conflicts of commitment.
The incumbent serves as the Institutional Official (IO) in administering FSU’s PHS Financial Conflict of Interest Policy; Evaluates significant financial interest (SFI) disclosures; Prepares and manages plans for eliminating or mitigating identified financial conflict of interests (FCOI); Reports FCOIs and mitigation plans to Federal authorities; and ensures operational efficiency of the electronic disclosure management system.
Additionally, the incumbent will develop and deliver educational programs related to research compliance; and ensure appropriate compliance training vehicles are in place and records are maintained of history of training of staff and students, particularly with agency responsible conduct of research training requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and six years of experience in research compliance in a university or similar academic setting or a combination of post-high school education and ten years of experience in research compliance in a university or similarly academic experience.
·Knowledge of and ability to apply compliance standards of applicable associations, such as Common Federal rules (2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements
·Ability to develop and implement business operation procedures to meet university guidelines
·Ability to adhere to ethical business practices and promote ethical behavior
·Ability to coordinate and conduct workshops
·Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
·Ability to train and direct others, meet project deadlines, and evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives
