First State Bank of Uvalde is a unique bank headquartered in the heart of the hill country in Uvalde, TX. The bank is a 107-year-old community bank which was originally owned by the former Vice President of the United States, John Nance Garner and then purchased by the former Governor of Texas, Dolph Briscoe and is still owned by Governor Briscoe’s estate. It is one of a portfolio of banks that the estate owns.
The headquarters is a beautiful historical building located in Uvalde, TX and has been deemed a museum containing an impressive collection of western art and other art. There are 8 branches in surrounding hill country areas.
The Assistant Controller position will report to the VP and Controller and be located in Uvalde, TX. The position has a defined /upwardly mobile career path and is a great opportunity in this unique South Texas bank of $2 billion in assets.
Ideally, the candidate should have 5-10 years of Financial Accounting and Reporting experience managing monthly close process, review of reconciliations and managing day to day accounting operations. Responsible for monthly financial statement preparation and variance explanations and preparation of monthly board reporting as well as other ad hoc reporting. The position will manage a staff of 4-5 staff. Skills in utilizing report building softwares (such as Microsoft Power BI or similar softwares) to extract data into report formatting and to use in data analytics is desired.
Review of the Bank’s quarterly call report is an additional responsibility of this position which is very similar to SEC reporting for public companies as banks are required to upload financial reporting to the FDIC on a quarterly basis (where public companies upload to the SEC).
