About this role:
The Family Advocate Hamstead Hospital brings their experience of being a parent or family member of a person with mental illness to the treatment team. The Family Advocate Hampstead engages with the patient’s family before, during, and after admission and serves as a liaison between the family and the treatment team. Additionally, the Family Advocate Hampstead assists the family in navigating the mental health system and preparing for the next level of care. The Family Advocate Hampstead is a member of the treatment team who provides highly individualized services to the family and the treating clinicians. The position primarily serves families of patients in the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, but may have additional responsibilities throughout the hospital.

Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
A person who has had a child or family member receiving services within the mental health system.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) as required by site contract.
Compliance
Aligned with NH’s System of Care, supporting services that are: family-driven, youth-guided, community-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally and linguistically competent.
What you will do:
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engages with the family of patients before, during, and after admission.
Participates in initial interviews with identified new admissions and their families.
Engages family/parents/guardian prior to admission to answer questions, whenever possible.
Participates in locating and engaging family members to promote permanency when necessary.
Offers parent support and education sessions.
Works with parents to address the barriers to successful integration of the child back into the home.
Provides input for the treatment plan regarding interventions that will assist the patient and the family meet the therapeutic goals.
Facilitates or participates in community meetings, therapeutic sessions, and psychoeducational sessions as appropriate and directed.
Educates the family on the program’s philosophy statement regarding the elimination of restraint and seclusion and solicits input around what interventions may be successful for their child.
Participates in Aftercare services as appropriate.
Serves as the hospital’s champion for Better Together and Parent Partner programs.
Participates in in-service sessions, staff meetings, and treatment team meetings as scheduled by Supervisor.
Notifies Supervisor in a timely manner of patient or departmental problems requiring attention. Request additional supervision when indicated.
Demonstrates appropriate boundaries with family members and patients at all times.
Maintains documentation of family and patient contacts in accordance with hospital standards.
Complies with employee standards of the company, as well as applicable employee standards of the HHRTF. Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationship, and timely notification of supervisory personnel of absences.
