Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of retention initiatives, academic advising, articulation and other related services including implementing programs to increase dual credit student enrollment and ensure dual credit student success.
Essential Functions
Assist and advise dual credit students in making well-informed college and career choices.
Conduct New Student Orientations at the various high schools, conduct advising sessions, run degree audits and provide related support services to dual credit students, as well as the Independent School Districts (ISD), and College faculty and staff.
Advise and provide dual credit students with degree plans that meet their short-term as well as long-term educational and career objectives and assist them in developing their class schedules.
Support ISD and El Paso Community College (EPCC) counselors in monitoring and following-up with dual credit students on their academic progress. Assist students who are in jeopardy of withdrawing from the college by working in conjunction with an ISD and EPCC counselor to develop a plan for academic improvement. Work with charter and private schools where dual credit classes are offered.
Maintain knowledge of College Readiness Standards and EPCC program requirements, and act as liaison between students and faculty.
Promote dual credit opportunities to high school staff, students, and parents.
Under the guidance of a counselor or coordinator, develop, plan and conduct on-going educational seminars, orientations, and workshops for students and faculty on strategies, policies and procedures, and issues pertaining to dual credit student academic advisement, student retention, and degree completion.
Assist the coordinator in carrying out activities that support the mission of the Dual Credit Program. Assist with recruitment of Dual Credit students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of experience in an educational environment related to student development and advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Ability to advise and guide students.
3. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
4. Ability to maintain and foster strong relationships with state agencies and local educational institutions.
5. Knowledge of regulations established by the State and policies and procedures of higher education.
6. Ability to generate and conduct presentations.
7. Ability to keep abreast of trends and best practices regarding student retention.
Special Conditions:
1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College’s policies and procedures.
2. Must be able to travel and occasionally work evenings to do presentations at the High Schools.

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
