Serving those who served! The VA Greater Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic Anesthesiology Preoperative Clinic. The VA GLA is a Level 1A complexity tertiary care health delivery organization that provides comprehensive care to one of the largest Veteran populations in the VA system. It covers a large geographic area. The organization includes an Inpatient Facility, eight Community Clinics, and two Ambulatory Care Centers.
Overview:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be responsible for performing medical risk stratification, which includes a detailed review of a patient’s medical problems, a physical exam, and a review of laboratory, Radiologic, and other diagnostic studies such as EKG, cardiac stress tests, and pulmonary function tests. Primary to the role is working with anesthesiologists on the preanesthetic evaluation and care of patients of various surgical and procedural services, including but not limited to, head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, podiatry, gynecology, orthopedics, urology, general surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, dental, gastroenterology, cardiology, and interventional radiology. The role involves determining if a patient needs additional preoperative testing or subspecialty referral and then arranging for those tests and referrals; following up on any pending labs, studies, or consults that may affect a patient’s perioperative course; identifying any urgent medical, surgical, or psychiatric needs; and assisting in the timely development and execution of plans to avoid cancellation or delay of the surgery or procedure. As a patient advisor, the NP will provide patient education regarding preoperative instructions and perioperative medication management; advocate for patients and ensure that they receive all necessary care, which may require coordination of follow-up with primary care or referral to a specialist; evaluate, promote, and strive to protect the health, safety, and rights of patients throughout the perioperative process.

Work Schedule: M-F | 7:30am – 4:00pm with the option to move to a compressed schedule (4 days per week, 10 hours daily) following completion of onboarding
Salary Range: $134,000 – $235,000 – Compensation is determined by the Nurse Professional Standards Board and is based on education, scope, and length of advanced nursing practice.
