Department of Veterans Affairs Looking for Assistant Chief of the Emergency Department Full Time

The Washington DC VA Medical Center, where serving our nations heroes is our number one priority, is looking for Assistant Chief of the Emergency Department. The physician must be able to perform all services required in the practice of Emergency Medicine in the context of the VA system. To include participation and oversight of staff physician and NP patient care performance measures, compliance, training, and performance improvement, as well as participation in system redesign activities. The position will assist the Section Chief of Emergency Medicine in preparing and maintaining the Emergency Department provider schedule and the Fast Track schedule monthly. This is a full-time position in an ACEP accredited ED, which sees over 25K patients per year. The incumbent will join our two full time physicians, and work with partners from our academic affiliates in providing care and education.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following functions:

• Patient care in both acute and non-urgent care settings
• Assist the Section Chief in reviewing and responding to all Emergency Department electronic Patient Incident Reporting/JPSR and Electronic Report of Contacts, EV’s and MAO’s
• Assist the Chief of Emergency Medicine (Section Chief) in representing the Emergency Department at all applicable hospital administrative and patient care meetings
• Work to eliminate wasted efforts/work/testing in the Emergency Department and develop and/or utilize preexisting patient care protocols and develop tools to monitor the success of those efforts
• Research opportunities in EM Medicine
• Academic training of medical students, medical residents, EN residents, NP students and fellows
• Board certification or eligibility in EM medicine is required, urban ED experience is perferred
• Flexible work schedule but typical standard working hours

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
