Job Summary:
Information Technology (IT) provides information resources and technology services to the entire campus community in support of the university’s mission. IT also provides technical assistance in the design, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of campus systems, media, and telecommunications infrastructure including; desktop and laptop computer equipment; institutional databases; enterprise-wide applications; technology equipped classrooms, distance learning classrooms, telecommunications systems; centrally licensed software, online services, open-access and discipline specific computer labs, consulting, training, and user support. Information Technology provides assistance to EWU leadership in strategic planning for technology initiatives which strengthen both efficiency and effectiveness.
This position, reports to the Sr. Manager of Enterprise Application Services, who in turn reports to the Associate Vice President / Chief Information Officer (CIO).
A Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, performance, integrity, and security of database systems that include tasks related to planning, implementing, integrating and performance for both on premises and cloud systems. This position works closely with both clients and IT staff on a variety of database systems including Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Aurora, RDS, PostgreSQL and other ancillary database systems.

Installation, maintenance, and development. Install, upgrade, and provide development and design support for database systems and select applications.

Outcome: Database systems and applications are provisioned and maintained in a timely manner; database support provided to development teams and other staff.

Responsibility / Duty: Security and Data Integrity. Utilize database security technologies that include the use of roles, fine grained access, auditing, and encryption that protect data from unauthorized or malicious access. Ensure that data is protected in accordance with the defined recovery point objective (RPO) from loss due to hardware failure, software failure, user error or malicious activity.
Tasks:
Outcome: Data is protected against unauthorized or malicious access including the review of audited access controls, policies, procedures, and users. Systems are available so that authorized users can complete their assigned functions and tasks. During a data loss event, data is recovered in accordance with the defined RPO and the affected application is returned to service.

Assist with the design and configuration of cloud database and application environments with considerations for storage, memory, clustering, database connectivity, security, staging servers, interoperability of applications, continuous integration and server management software.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Information: The salary range for this position is $80,064 (minimum) up to $105,060. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience and skills.
