Position Purpose:
The Director of Industry Partnerships (the Director) plays a leadership role in developing and executing strategies to achieve the Geisel School of Medicine’s goals of increasing industry sponsored research and collaborations between the Geisel and industry partners, in order to advance the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications that benefit patients and society. The Director is expected to have deep experience in biomedical scientific research in academic and industry settings, extensive connections with industry, and broad understanding of sources of financial support for advancement of university research through industry sponsorship, partnerships, and grant opportunities.The Director will play a key role in the institution’s efforts to solicit and effectively manage new and existing faculty-centric collaborations between the medical school’s research enterprise and aligned biomedical and healthcare industry partners. The Director will be responsible for developing strategies and initiatives to accelerate the growth of Geisel’s non-federal sponsored research portfolio by identifying, cultivating, executing, and supporting relationships with sponsors and collaborators in industrial, nonprofit, and international sectors. Such relationships will include industry-sponsored research agreements, contract research and testing arrangements, corporate foundation support, and other vehicles that advance collaboration and a shared research agenda with Geisel faculty.
In a team-based approach, the Director will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Foundational Research, with additional reporting to the Director of Dartmouth’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO), and work in collaboration with the Executive Director of Development for the Geisel School of Medicine to develop and execute these sponsored research, collaboration, and research-related engagements. The Director will work in close coordination with the TTO to structure clear, risk-managed agreements that advance and protect Dartmouth’s research, education, and intellectual property interests, and will collaborate with the Development Office to expand corporate philanthropic giving. The Director will also play a leading role in ongoing relationship management, supporting the faculty, Geisel, and the Office of Sponsored Projects in the administration of industry alliances in order to sustain and expand the relationships.

· Experience: Ten years of experience in building and managing successful industry partnerships with academic or healthcare institutions.· Results Orientation: Track record of achieving goals, delivering outcomes, and driving successful outcomes in industry-academic partnerships. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to overcome obstacles and navigate challenges that arise during partnership initiatives.· Project and Contract Management: Experience in managing complex projects and contract negotiations. Proficiency in drafting and reviewing partnership agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and legal considerations.Ethical Conduct: Commitment to upholding and ensuring compliance with relevant ethical standards, regulations and policies governing industry-academic collaborations. Familiarity with conflict of interest policies and the ability to manage potential conflicts effectively.
· Knowledge: In-depth understanding of biomedical research, the healthcare industry, and emerging trends in medical innovation is essential.· Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical considerations related to industry-academic collaborations is essential.· Familiarity with intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and translation and commercialization of academic research is advantageous.· Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, administrators, and industry professionals. Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing interdisciplinary projects.· Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex scientific and technical concepts in a clear and concise manner. Strong presentation and negotiation skills are essential for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.· Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic planning and analytical skills to identify partnership opportunities, assess their potential impact, and align them with the goals and objectives of the Geisel School of Medicine. The ability to think critically and make informed decisions is essential for successful collaboration management.Relationship Building: Proven ability to establish and nurture relationships with industry stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and biotechnology firms. Excellent networking, negotiation, and communication skills are crucial for developing and maintaining successful partnerships
Preferred Qualifications:
· PhD/ postdoc level experience or knowledge in the life sciences and/or medical field is strongly preferred.
• A masters degree or equivalent experience in business administration or advancement is beneficial.
