The clinical veterinarian is responsible for supervising patient care during clinical labs in which veterinary technology students perform tasks expected of an LVT in clinical practice. Primarily responsible for performing veterinary anesthetic and surgical procedures (spay/neuter, dental prophylaxis) and supervising veterinary technology students assisting with anesthetic induction and monitoring, surgical assisting and dental prophylaxis.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
Knowledge of veterinary anesthetic protocols and ability to perform small animal soft tissues surgeries.
Familiarity with common livestock procedures such as castration and dehorning are a plus.
Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Examine patients presenting for veterinary care, diagnose and order appropriate treatments, and supervise students providing patient care as directed.
Perform veterinary surgeries- primarily spays and neuters on small animal patients in clinical labs.
Maintain veterinary medical records for care provided to patients.
Mentors, assists, and provides positive interaction with students.
Assumes responsibility for diagnostic, prescriptive, surgical, consultative, and referral services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Standing for extended periods during anesthetic/surgical procedures. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
Maintains current veterinary liability insurance
Current, valid, and unencumbered Texas State Veterinary license
Must have a current valid driver’s license and good driving record
Official transcripts will be required.
