Position Title: Elementary School Teacher
Program: New Directions School
Essential Functions
Develop curriculum, lesson plans, behavior management and teaching strategies in assigned academic area for ages 3-7 years old to achieve learning objectives and differentiate instruction to accommodate different learning styles and address student motivation.
Work as a member of a professional learning community to enhance an educational team. Create a learning environment that is interactive, engaging, and promotes student learning and achievement.
Provides direct communication with parents, guardians, treatment team members and outside providers both through written communication and participation in team meetings.
Responsible for the supervision of students and the maintenance of a safe and secure educational environment. The supervision and implementation of the Residential behavioral system including DBT/De-escalation Techniques, individual clients ICMPs and special programs.
Job Responsibilities
1)Provides direct instruction to students in the classroom by creating effective learning environments, engaging lesson plans, and following the goals and expectations of students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
2)Develops students’ IEPs including drafting and implementing goals, objectives, accommodations, teaching strategies, and lesson plans.
3)Prepare educational and behavioral progress reports including quarterly reporting on IEP goals, regular updates on grades, academic and behavioral feedback, and maintaining student records.
4)Administer formal and informal diagnostic assessments to target student learning levels, interests, and needs.
5)Development and implementation of curriculum, working as a collaborative team with other school staff to create safe and stimulating classroom environments to achieve academic and behavioral success and meet individual student objectives.
6)Establish and reinforce relationships with students to provide an environment that is receptive, responsive, and adaptive to the individual needs and skills of the various students.
7)Written communication of homework assignments directly with students and their families/guardians in a timely and effective manner.
8)Written and verbal communication with families/guardians regarding specific behavioral and academic concerns that occur in and out of the classroom, areas of success, opportunities for collaboration, and to provide regular feedback of progress in school. This will be provided on a regular and as needed basis through email, phone calls, and face-to-face contact.
9)Provide student supervision, set behavioral limits, respond to crisis situations and to attend to student safety in accordance with established DBT/De-escalation techniques in which staff have been trained including: Initiating and performing humane restraints as required, providing CPR and First Aid, and other needed care.
10)Participate in various meetings with other clinical, administrative, and support staff to share information, develop plans, collaborate effectively, and process incidents.
11)Work collaboratively with administration and other components of the residential campus to address school management, develop programming and plans to solve problems, and engage in developing solutions to issues as they occur.
12)Develop and implement special interest projects and elective classes to provide meaningful instruction, target students’ interest areas, and enhance the school experience.
13)Develop and participate in committees to address problem areas, develop new activities, and encourage collaborative problem solving. This includes monthly committee meetings and reporting back to the larger group on findings and outcomes.
14)Provides detailed and thorough lesson plans for substitutes to follow when out for planned and unexpected absences.
15)Maintain professional certification through Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, including identifying and participating in professional development workshops and trainings.
16)Meet regularly with supervisor or designee for scheduled and as-needed supervision to discuss curriculum, teaching strategies, classroom management, and assigned tasks.
17)Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment
18)Adhere to Cutchins Programs for Children and Families, Inc. Rules, Standards, and Ethics Policy.
Minimum Requirements for the Position
Degree: Bachelor’s, Masters in Education preferred
License and/or Certification:Appropriate Teaching License for teaching area and grade level
